It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English — up to fifty words used in correct context — no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese. – Carl Sagan

There are times, as a business owner, when you wish you would have just stayed as an employee of a company, and been a robot to that owner’s demands. As shitty as it is, it’s stable. You go to work, do your job (whatever it may be) and at 5 o’clock, you punch and go home. Next day, rinse and repeat. You collect your checks and just aimlessly move day to day. You miss an assignment, deadline, or whatever, and it’s no sweat off your back. What’s the worse that happens? You get reprimanded? Written up? Fired even? So what. It’s just a job.
Now, you make one of those mistakes when you own that business. It brings a whole new meaning to missing a deadline. There is no reprimanding. There is no write ups. There is no being fired. You take it to the next level. You risk your clients. You lose clients, you lose work. You lose work, you lose money. You lose money, you lose a lot more than your job.
Yea, I’m being over analytical, but the fact remains. Yea, I know, in the grand scheme of things, missing my shipment tonight isn’t going to cost me my client (my biggest for that matter), but it brings one disturbing fact to fruition…
I failed.
I don’t tolerate failure. I failed to deliver on a job I promised would be done when I said it would be. I have to live with this fact. Disappointing yourself when you take so much pride in your work is the worst possible admonition I could possibly get.
Be master of your petty annoyances and conserve your energies for the big, worthwhile things. It isn’t the mountain ahead that wears you out – it’s the grain of sand in your shoe. – Robert Service
So, Toshiba finally have decided to cut their losses and stop pushing their HD-DVD format, this coming about a week after Warner Bros. decided to switch their supported format to Blu-Ray. The porn industry switched recently as well (adult film companies are who killed Beta as well). Sony’s Blu-Ray support for their Playstation 3 also doesn’t help HD-DVDs cause either.
So, we can very soon put HD-DVD right next to your pile of 8mm reels, BetaMax tapes, LaserDisks, minidisk, etc.
So, why is this in my blog, why do I care? Well, the reason PS3s are so expensive is the Blu-Ray player. Once there is no longer a competing format, the prices will plummet down. We shall see.
It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it. – W. Somerset Maugham
Trying a new theme, and also a new category, Quotes. If I find a famous quote I like, I’ll post it. Hopefully weekly.
So I just read this morning that Guitar Hero franchise will be releasing something like 4 games this year, next in july….
The only shitty part is that it is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Read about it here is you give a hooter
boo.
OK, as of late I have been addicted to guitar hero 3, to the point where the 3-cd soundtrack (I downloaded songs and ordered them) is in my car and I can’t help but drown out the entire song but the guitar (or bass) track.
I was never a musician, other than screwing with sample tracks and making songs digitally, but the game makes you at least “THINK” you can play a real guitar.
I’m actually afraid to even play Rock Band and play drums as well, but in time I know I will have it.
Damn, I expired my World of Warcraft account, but there is always some game that is my outlet. If I have to hear Hit Me With Your Best Shot one more time, I’m going to cry.
Starting this new blog on my server, but have imported all past diaries, from blogger as well as wordpress.com.
Yes, this blog is a wordpress blog still, but I’m hosting it now (for control reasons). If you are reading and have a diary yourself, I’m updating my new blogroll links on the side. Msg me up and I’ll give you free advertising!
Ok, I’m hosting my own site now, testing for workage.
